Rumors that Clay Aiken was losing his RCA contract proved true today when RCA refreshed its roster on the label’s official web site and the American Idol season two runner-up was nowhere to be found. A source tells Billboard Aiken was indeed dropped.
Clay joins fellow Idol 2nd place finishers, Katharine McPhee, Diana DeGarmo, Justin Guarini, Blake Lewis and Bo Bice–all dropped from their post-Idol label deals. Only the most recent runner-up, Season 7’s David Archuleta, remains with his deal intact.
(And what's up with this picture of him? He looks like he's aged 20 years since the show.)

One point of clarification. Katharine McPhee was recently signed with Universal's Verve Forecast label. She is the only other runnerup who has a deal with a Major label besides the current runnerup David A.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to Clay, I expect he will land somewhere.
Hey , guys , the Clay news is still a rumor . No official news . He has been off the RCA roster for weeks . His fans are hoping that after 6 years that he is free and will run like the wind from a label that has done very little for him since his first album . Unless you just want to be negative , it is very easy to find better photos of Clay that the one taken at a UNICEF function . Very easy . :-)
ReplyDeleteI like Michael Sarver a lot .A good guy , a good voice , a good story . I'll vote for him and hope he goes all the way . Give him all the support you can . It will mean everything to him .
