Jasper welcomes home its Idol

From The Beaumont Enterprise
Like he has a thousand times before, Michael Sarver walked from the back prayer room to the stage at Jasper's Harvest Church on Friday. But this time, about 500 screaming fans greeted the "American Idol" contestant, and he looked so relaxed, the film crew documenting his trip home asked him to go outside and enter again.

Fame has brought the 27-year-old Jasper man's talents to the world, but he remains the same good ol' boy and man of God he was before, said Sara Smith, 17.

"Some people just deserve a break, I think," she said. "I just think it's his heart. Some people might become arrogant, but I don't think he can be that."

For one day, Sarver visited Jasper with his wife, Tiffany, and their son and daughter. Camera crew in tow, they visited family, walked the streets of the town of 8,000 residents and stopped for a homecoming party at their church where Sarver sang and worshipped for the last nine years.

  3. I really appreciate that you want the reputation of Jasper to be changed. It shows that you are not just thinking about yourself and will use your fame to raise the opinions of others about our town. thanks. That shows that you really are the kind of person American Idol says you are.
