The misadventures of Sassy Sarver

Michael Sarver is getting a new nickname.
Forget Pork Chop. We're rollin' with "Sassy Sarver: Jasper Diva."

One of our Enterprise Idol fans found a story earlier today on KJAS.com about the Parade Grand Marshall for Jasper. This story somehow disappeared shortly thereafter (and we're thinking the reason can be tacked to the bottom of that diva list), but a true Idol fan has copies of such things.

According to the story, Michael Sarver is going to be the only Grand Marshall for the Lions Club 63rd annual Jasper Lions Club Rodeo Parade. Awesome, right?! That's a pretty cool accomplishment!

Wait... hold the applause.

Apparently Michael was supposed to share that title with Jasper's new head football coach Mike Bickham. But, and we quote, "Lions Club Vice President and Parade Chairman Lequin Hilderbrand said on Monday that the change occurred after receiving a telephone call from Michael Sarver Monday morning."

Bickman will instead be "Parade Boss," along with JISD Athletic Director Thomas Brooks.

We certainly don't want to make assumptions, but it sounds sort of like Michael went all Diana Ross and pitched a hissy for not being the coolest thing in town. And let's be honest here, we're super proud of Michael and we back him 100 percent. We can't wait to hear his first CD. But 10th place doesn't exactly call for an event contract and a dressing room full of Evian and fresh fruit. And lets not forget this is Texas. Idol is great, but football is right under God.

We're not sure why the story was removed. We could be wrong. We're hoping so.

  1. I'll bet you're wrong. Doesn't sound like
Michael would do that sort of thing. Maybe
your informant needs to check again.

  4. this website has been a great benefit to the people in southeast texas and to the fans of michael sarver. whoever has done the blogging, has gone above and beyond accomodating the readers as to the latest happenings of michael sarver.
please verify information before posting or making any assumptions that would be detrimental to the bloggers credibility or to michael sarver.
why spoil one of the most positive journalism experiences many have benefited from?

  5. Get the true facts before you start saying things about Michael Sarver doing that because it does not sound like things that he would do.
    People are just jealous!!!!!!!

  6. Mike Lout is running for mayor of Jasper. I am sure he wouldn't want to offend anyone while running for this position. Lout makes it look like he is an objective journalist but the truth is that he has always been out for his own interests. Using KJAS Radio as his platform.

  7. This isn't the first time Mike Lout has pulled stories from his website for these reasons.

  8. I am a daily reader of kjas.com and Beaumont Enterprise. I read the article that is being referred to and they did write it to leave one thinking that Micheal called and had a conversation with Lions Club Vice President and Parade Chairman Lequin Hilderbrand leading to he and he alone being the Parade Grand Marshall. Now, I am a fan of Micheals and I believe he is a man of true character...but the Beaumont Enterprise is posting straight facts from the source...if you are mad about this...the source is kjas.com...that is where the story WAS posted...the offense is probably just poor choice in wording on the part of kjas.com...that would be a good reason why it is no longer posted. I am sure that the new coach isnt sweating all this though...I mean...now he is the BOSS! Anyway, who knows what happened on that phone call from Micheal...frankly it is none of business...all parties involved are good people and we should all just relax...life is too short to sweat the small stuff...go to the parade...have a good time...and enjoy life.

  9. I know Michael very well and I know his attitude is far from this mess. I know the facts are not right. This is pitiful. But I will have a good time and enjoy the parade knowing that a journalist is just trying to make money.

  10. I cant wait to see Michael on the tour and before then can't wait to see him on the finale. I wonder what songs he will be singing.

  11. Wow. All I can say is wow. Its amazing how people turn on people
so fast. Whoever wrote this blog must really be unhappy with there own level of success. To whoever you are, Get A Life! No matter what
kjas says, if u were a good journalist u would have went to the people involved instead of borrowing someone else's story. Don't speak unless u know what your speaking about. I don't blame this on anyone else but the writer. I didn't see anyone else calling him sassy sarver or diva but u. It was not called for and you just made your self look like a jerk. Oh and don't blogg back trying to make excuses for being who you are. Just shut up if you can't speak more positively. If you cared about the truth you would have looked a little deeper. Oh, wait maybe you aren't smart enough to study. That seemed kind of like an assumption, hmmm what's that feel like. I am a Michael fan and even if he takes this laying down I won't. U should shut this blog down or at least stop calling it a Michael fan site. U have spoke negatively more than one time, And for your information reaching the top ten is a big deal. He is going on tour and he has fans all over the world. Way more than we can say about u considering not many people even know who u are.

  12. I agree with the last blog. Get a life. U just pissed off a lot of Michael
fans. Sucks for you. Were gonna find out who u are and then everyone
will know who the jerk is. Don't say your here for michael and then post something like that. I read the kjas post and u totally should have cared
more about the truth because no one including myself believes that Michael was a jerk in this situation. I have met him and I know better.

  13. I'm not sure what to believe - Michael seems like a genuine, sincere guy. I really like him.

  14. Im amused at all of the "Anonymous" comments. Looks like michaels been busy typing

  15. Usually I disagree with the local media because they do seem to over exaggerate things. however I know first hand that this is true. I have a relative who is part of the Lions club and I asked him about this and he said that unfortunately it was true. I was hoping that it wasn't because I didn't want the fame to get the best of Michael but the fact that this is true made me loose alot of respect for him. It's a parade in Jasper. It's not like the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. I am disappointed!

  16. I believe someone stated that the story was pulled from the site, however they are incorrect. The story is still on there. I pasted the link below. I don't want to think it is true but I am in the same situation as the last poster. I have inside sources and it came directly from them that this is true. So to all of the people who say Michael would never do that, or "He's a good guy", you never know what can change a person. Just because he was nice and sincere in the past doesn't mean a little fame can't change a person. I still don't want to believe this because I have talked to Michael before and he seemed nice at the time, but that doesn't mean he is that way all the time. Don't be mad at the person who runs this site because they aren't the ones that posted the original story, they are just reporting on all Michael Sarver news. If you don't like it the only thing I could suggest is read elsewhere. No one wants to hear any bad about Michael, including myself, but we have all seen similar situations with others who find fame, so don't hold your breath thinking this isn't true.

Seriously, if you claim to be a "person close to the story", why not use your name? I firmly stand, with my real name, beside the entire Sarver family and say.....HE IS NOT A DIVA, SASSY, DEMANDING OR ANY OF THE OTHER SHORT SYLLABLE WORDS HE'S BEEN CALLED. He is, in fact, the same person he was when he left. And, for the record, they are not sitting around counting their stacks of cash. They are still raising a family, volunteering at their church and obviously, volunteering in the community. Finally, for the record: fame is achieved, earned and deserved. It can be envied, but not stolen through hatred, gossip or bitterness. Have a great day!

  18. Hello everyone. My name is Michael Sarver and I am here to speak on my behalf. First I want to say thank you to all those that have supported me. It has meant the world to me and I will never forget it. I have read this blog entry and all the comments and I have to say I am pretty disappointed in the way I am being portrayed here. First off, this story is a complete and utter fabrication and anyone who says otherwise should have the courtesy of speaking to me about it. Those that so easily accuse should consider what this would feel like if it were happening to u. And for the blogger who said you have a family member telling you this is true, I would love to meet that family member in person and tell them the truth. There was no phone call by me to anyone and it is a lie. The worse part of all this is that it is my hometown people saying these hurtful things. People who know me know better than this. You can bash my singing, my look , or the way I walk for that matter, but speaking things like this about my character is not right. And for those who believe I have changed, well your right. Instead of a good man just working hard, loving my family, and enjoying life I have now become a good man just working hard, loving my family, enjoying life, and being disliked and criticized for it. I am still me and it sucks that the town that I bragged about on national television is the same town treating me this way.I know its not everyone but those that are I forgive you. For those that are supporting me on this, I say thank you for not throwing me to the curb. U haven't failed me yet. I don't claim to be a perfect person but what I do claim is being a good man who loves people and most of all loves God. I do claim to be a man of God and a man of good character. I have worked really hard for a long time pursuing a career in music and here I am realizing a dream. Thank God. So in closing I want to say this is one of the happiest times in my life and I will not let anyone take that from me. Your criticism is unwelcomed but I love you anyway. For the writer of this blog I want to say thank you for all the hometown support during the american idol process. It has been a great experience and you helped share that with everyone through your blog. To all I say God bless you coming and going and I pray you all realize your dreams if you haven't already.

    God Bless,
    Michael Sarver

  20. Now I am realllllllyyyyy proud of you!!! Favor is not fair, but it is yours.

  21. Well said Michael!! It's funny how things in small towns get out of hand. All it takes is one person misconstruing the story and then it gets out of hand from there. We are proud of you and don't let this crap get you down. It just shows you how quickly people turn on you. All I can say is my wife and I support you 100% and will continue to support you. I think the comments you have made during interviews has helped others recognize Jasper other than what it has been viewed as in the past. You are true to your hometown and in turn your hometown should be true to you.

I am sorry you have to read these kinds of posts with people taking things out of context and saying things that we all know aren't true. I can speak for your kindness first hand because I pulled over and talked to you while you and your wife were walking home from your welcome home party. If you were this "sassy diva" that others have have accused you of being, then you would have blew me off, but you didn't. You listened to what I had to say and you and your wife even commented on enjoying our Christmas lights.. :) So keep you head high and don't let it get to you. People are jealous and feed off of things that they see make you upset. Hope to see you and your family again this year at Christmas in Jasper :) We are adding more lights!!!!!

  22. I have inside knowledge of the situation and will validate that Michael is absolutely telling the truth. There was a huge misunderstanding about the whole situation, none of which was catalyzed by Michael or any correspondence from him. The persons in charge were trying to honor two Jasperites of which they are very proud: Michael and Coach Brooks, and at the same time be hospitable and extend a warm welcome to Coach Bickham. This consequently blew up in their faces. KJAS is a wonderful and benevolent media outlet in our community (and the station owner was just elected mayor, by the way), but they are also well known for not always getting the facts in order. The title of "Grand Marshall" was intended to honor Michael and his accomplishments and in no way provide an outlet for people to speak unkindly of him.

  23. Way to go Michael I love you!!! Keep up the good work!!!!

  25. The story says "Lions Club Vice-President and Parade Chairman Laquin Hilderbrand said" so if you want to know the truth look this guy up and ask him for yourself. That will put alot of speculation to rest. Then post your findings here so we'll all know.

After hearing too much "white noise" and now reading what most have already read, I feel compelled to set the record straight on this Lions Club Rodeo Parade issue.

First, as erroneously printed, I never told anyone that a telephone call was received from Mr. Sarver. That was simply a misprint. I simply stated that there was a telephone conversation but never mentioned who participated in that conversation. But, for the sake of setting the record straight, Mr. Sarver was not a part of any of my telephone conversations.

Secondly, I never knew Mr. Sarver until days after the original article was printed so I could never hold a personal opinion of him one way or the other. Well, obviously the man could sing and I could speak to that. Regardless my opinions, I don't share those publicly because opinions are just like feelings and thoughts; they only belong to the person who holds them and they are neither right nor wrong. However, after personally meeting him and after several other conversations, I make no apology in declaring that he is anything but demanding or sassy. He is a good man with a good head on his shoulder and with good and genuine intentions. I explained to him that the world is full of jealous and envious people who will go to no end to disrupt our lives if we allow them to do so. Let's not become a player in a game filled with meanness.

Lastly, the only reason changes were made to the parade line-up were to clear up some misunderstandings and miscommunications by community volunteers of our Rodeo Parade committee. Those changes were not the result of a mandate or demand by Mr. Sarver or any other single person or group associated with him. Case closed.

A word to the wise, and in accordance with an old bit of philosophy: believe nothing you hear and only half of whay you see.
