Next week is a Motown theme, with a focus on the 50th anniversary of Motown. The Detroit Press reports that Idol cameras will be at the Motown Historical Museum Thursday to shoot footage for next week. In Motown’s old Studio A, Detroit icons Berry Gordy Jr. and Smokey Robinson will mentor the show’s 10 finalists through a series of Hitsville song selections, sources said. The taped segments will air next week before the contestants perform the songs live on the show’s Los Angeles stage.

Next week's theme: Motown

What to expect

What to expect tonight (in no particular order)
Danny Gokey - Having learned his lesson about pelvic thrusting, Danny will introduce a new move: the butt shake.. or the robot, maybe both.
Michael Sarver - Will offer up another solid performance and answer the age-old question: Should every Texan be a country artist?
Adam Lambert - Could get in trouble with his song selection this week unless he changes a song up like David Cook did last season. That said, the judges will still gush over him and probably credit him with re-inventing country music.
Allison Iraheta - A poor song selection will prove to everyone that she should stick with rock. (Also, she'll dye her hair a shamrock green)
Kris Allen - Will attempt playing more than one note on his guitar but will continue singing out of the side of his mouth. Paula will swoon.
Scott MacIntyre - Will give another solid but boring as hell performance. And he'll prove that he does have moves by standing at the piano instead of sitting this week.
Megan Corkrey - More swaying and less bird flapping this week (we hope), her quirky style should work in the country theme.
Matt Giraud - Will sound exactly like Danny, again.
Anoop Desai - Anoop doing country?? Really?? He's hasn't got a chance. (but maybe they'll dress him like John Wayne?!)
Lil Rounds - We predict another power ballad coming with an amazing glory note at the end, but we'll still be underwhelmed.

Next week - Grand Ole Opry theme
Idol is about to join forces for a week with the “Show That Made Country Music Famous”! American Idol will feature a Grand Ole Opry theme on March 17 & 18, as contestants will select and perform songs popularized by Opry members! In addition, Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis will sing together on Randy’s classic hit and Carrie’s current single, “I Told You So,” plus Brad Paisley will make the television debut of his new single, “Then,” from his forthcoming summer album. Vote For the Worst posted the song list that the top 11 will choose from HERE.

We predict ...
Who'll stay and who will go?? We'll know soon enough. Here's our prediction for tonight's episode. Top vote getters: Danny and Adam. Going home: Jorge and Jasmine. Big twist: Judge's will get to veto one of America's votes this season (and if Allison ends up in the bottom two tonight, will they use it so soon in the season?) Group number: another Michael Jackson song (will we finally get a moonwalk?!) Group performance cheorgraphy: Scott sits or stands in place. Guest appearances: Kelly Clarkson and Kanye West (ok, this isn't so much a prediction as a fact. Any chance Michael Jackson will make a surprise appearance?)

Who will be the first to go?
This Associated Content story predicts Michael will make it into the Top 10.
"The producers threw viewers a curve by allowing 13 performers to advance rather than the expected 12. Eight guys and five gals moved on after the preliminary rounds and the wild card selections. Who will be the next American Idol will not be decided for several weeks, but someone is going home this week. Who will be the first to get the bad news?
Before we get to the people in danger in week number one, let's take a quick look at who is 'safe' for at least the first five eliminations. Among the guys, Danny Gokey, Anoop Desai and Scott Macintyre should be safe bets to advance to the final eight. This baring any horrible performance or song selections. On the edge of this upper circle we have Adam Lambert and Michael Sarver ready to move in should one of the top three falter. Among the girls, Lil Rounds should have no trouble avoiding elimination, nor should Allison Iraheta. Alexis Grace should be safe, but she is on the borderline and will need a strong performance to insure her slot.
In danger in week one among the guys are Kris Allen and Jorge Nunez. They both have talent but at this level of competition I am not certain they will have enough to draw in the needed votes. Jasmine Murray is in the most danger among the girls, mostly because of her age and the fact she has seemed to struggle with nerves in the earlier rounds. Riding the fence will be both Megan Joy and Matt Giraud. Song selection and theme will be key to both of these having a chance to advance. Megan should last one or two rounds longer than Matt, but with a poor performance all could change.
The first to be voted out on American Idol Season 8 will be - Kris Allen. Next to go will be Jasmine Murray followed by Jorge Nunez."

Kelly Clarkson, Kanye West perform Tuesday
The American Idol season is about to kick off with a bang - at least as far as guest performers go. No sooner had the show unveiled its freshly baked unprecedented Top 13 then it announced a powerful 1 - 2 punch of guest performers, revealing that both musical sensation Kayne West and Idol’s prodigal daughter Kelly Clarkson will take the Idoldome stage to perform on March 11th results show.
According to the release from Fox, West will perform his platinum selling single “Heartless” while Clarkson will perform her recent smash hit “My Life Would Suck Without You.”

Tonight's songs?
Here's the latest list of rumored songs circling the web. We should warn you that most of the lists we received last week were wrong. But you never know.
Adam Lambert- "All By Myself" Eric Carmen
Nick Mitchell - "Crying" Roy Orbison
Matt Breitzke-"How Am I Supposed to Live Without You" Michael Bolton
Kai Kalama-"Lean on Me" Club Nouveau
Kris Allen- "How You Remind Me" Nickelback
Matt Giraud - "Viva La Vida" Coldplay
Jeanine Vailes -"Love Will Lead You Back" Taylor Dayne

Meghan Cockrey- "Nothing Compares 2 U" Sinéad O'Connor
Jesse Langseth- "You Needed Me" Anne Murray
Mishavonna Henson-"With or Without You" U2
Jasmine Murray- "Love song" Sara Bareilles
Who will advance tonight

Here's our highly subjective ranking of tonight's contestants. Our ranking is based on how likely a candidate will advance to the Top 12, not on how good they are. For example, Jeanine Vailes may rock it tonight (like Ricky last week), but she's had absolutely no TV time and therefore few fans to vote for her). Follow our live blog tonight and see exactly how wrong we are.
Girls
6. Jeanine Vailes, 5. Jesse Langseth, 4. Mishavonna Henson, 3. Allison Iraheta, 2. Megan Corkrey, 1. Jasmine Murray
Guys
6. Kai Kalama, 5. Matt Breitzke, 4. Kris Allen, 3. Nick Mitchell, 2. Matt Giraud, 1. Adam Lambert
Who'll advance: Jasmine, Adam and, in a shocker, Nick (Norm). Tell us who your top 3 picks are.

How the rest of the Top 12 will be picked
We've had a lot of questions about how the remainder of the finalists will be chosen, particularly how the wildcard round will work (relax, Michael's already in) But if you have other contestant favorites, the next two weeks will work the same way as last week, with an additional 6 finalists named. Now we have 9 people in the top 12. Then on March 5 ...
Wildcard show
--- the next highest vote getter (after the 3 finalists already chosen) from each of the 3 groups advances (Anoop for sure)
--- Judges pick the rest of the people to participate in wildcard round, for a total of 9 or 10 contestants (producers said in December that they hadn't decided how many yet)
--- All contestants perform for a shot at the 3 remaining spots in the Top 12 (it is rumored that contestants will have to perform the last song they sang again.. we HOPE that is not the case. it was bad enough hearing them sing these songs the first time)
--- The judges will immediately pick the final 3 members of the Top 12.

Meet Group 2 - Part 4
Jesse LangsethMeet Group 2 - Part 3
Allison Iraheta
At the age of 14, Allison won $50,000 and a recording contract from a singing competition on Quinceanera. While the record contract didn't seem to stick, her teenage rendition of "Total eclipse of the heart" was phenomenal, and we hope to see her bring that performance back on Idol. She's now only 16, and carries a deep, throaty voice worthy of only experienced singers. She hasn't received much TV time, but you will recognize her the minute you see her. She has bright pink hair from root to tip.
Jasmine Murray
Jasmine is another one of Idol's junior singers - only 16 years old. She sang "Big Girls Don't Cry" during her Jacksonville audition, and made an impression on the judges from the start. Simon said she was "cute, commercial, and a very very good singer." What he didn't say was she seemed to sing it all from her nose. But this model-esque contestant is quite marketable, and we think she looks a little like actress Gabrielle Union.

Meet Group 2 - Part Deux
Mishavonna Henson
This is Mishavonna's second round to American Idol. She auditioned in Season 7 and made it through to Hollywood, but missed the final cut. Or you may have seen her in her earlier years, when she guested stared on TV's "Frasier" or in the 2004-07 TV series "Unfabulous." She is also a semi-accomplished Christian artist. And she's only 18. Like Michael and Kendall, this one is from our great state, but apparently didn't live here long. She also has the longest name in the world (Mishavonna Antoinette Henson), and we're going to call her "Misha" from now on.

Meet Group 2 - Part 1

Nick Mitchell
Nick is 27 and lives in Connecticut. No clue as to who we're talking about? Perhaps the name Normund Gentle will jog your memory. The sparkly headband-wearing comedian (sort of) who threw himself on the floor - literally - after his New York "And I'm telling you" audition. We have no idea what the purpose of Normund Gentle is, or how he fits into the competition. It seems after each performance, Nick promises he'll leave his alter ego behind and hit the stage as a serious performer. Nick lies. But we have heard him sing, and we must admit he can carry a tune. And no matter how bad we want to hate it, we love Normund. We look forward to his goofy performances, and we have no idea why.
Kris Allen
Kris auditioned and Kentucky and sang "A song for you" by Leon Russell. We have to take the word from the Internet on that one, because the only clip aired on the show was in a three-second montage and it wasn't much. During the group performance he sang in "White Chocolate" with India, Justin and Matt G. Kris seems to be a squeaky clean guy - no previous record contracts, no swimsuit calendar. Just a business student at University of Central Arkansas who leads worship at his church. He hasn't had much air time, though, which only works if you are Kelly Clarkson.

What does Top 12 mean?

We here at Idol Chatter realize not every Michael Sarver fan is an American Idol fan. Some of you may know nothing of the show and what this coveted Top 12 spot really means. Based on past years, here's what you can more than likely expect this season:
What's next
Michael's going to get a much deserved break. The next two weeks, Groups 2 and 3 will perform just like this week. On the third week, the judges will invite certain contestants back for a wildcard round. THEN, nearly one month from now, Michael and the rest of the Top 12 will begin weekly live shows, with one contestant being eliminated each week until only one stands. The Top 12 takes the stage Tuesday, March 10.
