Has Micheal already performed?
There seems to be a lot of confusion on American Idol fan forums on when tomorrow night's episodes are actually being taped. In the previous two seasons, the Tuesday night performances at this point were taped on Sunday nights (it was a live "taping", not a live "show"). If so, Michael performed last night. But one fan on the message boards tells us he has a ticket to a dress rehearsal tomorrow afternoon. Still another fan tells us it was taped Saturday and "we are in for a treate." So who the hell knows.. Idol producers are doing a good job creating confusion.
So here's what we do know (sortof): Group One will be performing at CBS Studios (what, FOX hasn't got its own place?) in Hollywood with a 5-piece band and three backup singers, but in some previous seasons, Top 24 contestants have performed on a smaller stage.
American Idol announced earlier that the Top 36 will sing from a catalog drawn from the top ten songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart since the chart began in the 1950s all the way to the present. So that should narrow things down a bit ... He'll be singing one of those 25,000 songs.
Anyway, the 2-hour show will air Tuesday night, followed by a 2-hour period in which you can vote for Michael as many times as you can. Wednesday's result show will be live. More on the show's format here.

Michael Jackson done right
We've heard a lot of comments and surprise from Michael's fans about his love of Michael Jackson. So we thought we'd take this opportunity to remind everyone what can be done with Michael's songs. Our favorite all-time Idol performance (we've been waiting for an excuse to play this!) from last season's winner David Cook:
Pick Michael's next song!
Since Michael’s preparing for his live performance Tuesday night, we thought we’d help him pick his next song. In a tight race it all comes down to song choice. Michael’s told us his top musical inspiration is Michael Jackson (yeah we were shocked too) and his favorite types of music are R&B followed by pop and rock. So here’s your chance to help. Tell us what song Michael should sing next.
We thought we'd kickstart this with a few suggestions of our own...
1. "Good morning beautiful" by Steve Holly.
Micheal's southern charm would really shine through a sweet country song. Plus, this one reminds us of the original he wrote for his wife Tiffany, which he sung in the judges' mansion before being picked for the Top 36.
2. "Higher ground" by Stevie Wonder
Who wouldn't want to sing this song?
3. "Time of the season" by the Zombies
This one is a little higher than Michael's normal octave, but with a little changes to the arrangement, it could be a great song for him. Blake Lewis covered this song on Season 6 and it's a standout performance from Idol past, so that's shaky ground. Be we're confident Michael can shine with it.
4. "Lately" by Stevie Wonder / Jodeci
We happen to think this is one of the greatest songs ever, and we appreciate Stevie for bringing it to us. But, for Michael, we recommend the Jodeci version.
5. "Don't leave me" by Blackstreet
We just want to hear this song again. It's been way too long.
Tell us what you think Michael should sing!

And he writes songs too?!
From Michael's fan myspace page
"I know that there has been a lot of buzz around the song Michael sang on last nights "sing off". That is a song that he wrote for his wife Tiffany. That's right folks, it was an original song!! This just goes to show that Michael is a true artist. Hopefully he will be able to sing or show case more of his original songs.
We love you Michael...keep up the good work!"
Even more impressive indeed. Watch video of Michael singing his song for the judges here.
